When everyone was staying home more, many people found it difficult to maintain healthy habits. Exercise and healthy eating is hard when there aren’t many places to go and you’re home all day with your snacks!

Our vineyard in Lawrence offers more than just innovative Twisted Wines. Come by and see us–play volleyball on our outdoor courts, soak up some Vitamin D lakeside, or bring your whole family for a walk. We’re pet friendly, so you can even bring the dog along!

At Z&M, we’re about more than “just” wine. We care about the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

Because a really good glass of wine engages the senses in a variety of ways, from the sound of the pop of the cork, to the feel of the glass in your hand, to the taste and texture of the wine itself. And, if you think back to some of the best wine you’ve ever had, chances are, your memory is about more than drinking.

You likely remember who you were with, what you were talking about, the way the sky looked that night or the atmosphere of the place you were in. We know when we’re making wine, we’re making future memories.

As the COVID-19 pandemic showed many of us, while you can be physically healthy, it’s hard to be truly well without feeding your soul–without a community.

Go For a Walk

Not all exercise has to make you break a sweat or leave you gasping for air. Because walking is low-impact and requires little equipment, it’s an ideal form of easy exercise that most people can squeeze into their day with a little creativity.

Not too much, of course. Sun is a lot like wine–enjoy it responsibly, because there’s definitely too much of a good thing.

What Is Vitamin D?

Known as the sunshine vitamin, your skin produces Vitamin D when it’s exposed to sunlight. Many foods are also fortified in with Vitamin D, although it also occurs naturally in shrimp, salmon, and eggs.

It helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus (both important for strong bones), and it aids in immune system functioning.

Sunlight is Good For You, So Get Outside!

The sun’s rays do more than cause your body to make vitamin D. Did you know they are also believed to boost your brain’s serotonin levels?

That’s a mood-boosting hormone associated with daylight (just like melatonin is triggered by darkness). Just 5 to 15 minutes outside three times a week on your face, hands, and arms can make the difference!

Volleyball: A Lifetime Sport

At our Twisted Vineyard, we’re set up for outdoor volleyball games that would make Maverick jealous.

You can also get in a bit of a workout! Improve your coordination, reflexes, and agility while working on your cardiovascular and muscular health. And, just as with that moderate bit of sunlight we talked about earlier, exercise can be a great mood booster.

As a form of aerobic exercise, volleyball can help burn calories and revv that metabolism. A more efficient metabolism means more efficient fat burning. 

Oh, and it’s fun! Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a Top Gun to enjoy the benefits of this classic beach sport!

Playing with friends? Volleyball is a great form of team building, since you have to work together and communicate well. It can also help you come together as a group and enhance a sense of belonging.
